If you aren’t monitoring what your customers are saying about you online, you should be. It’s a smart and necessary step to successful online business marketing.
A new study by Pew Internet Center found that 58% of adults have done research online about products and services before they buy. Nearly a quarter of adults post comments or reviews online about products they buy.
How often is the average adult searching for product information? Frequently – with 21% of adults reading products reviews on a typical day.
Every company should take online business marketing seriously. You should know what is being said about you on the web. Here’s a few step you should take to do this:
- Google Search: The simplest way to do this is to search for your company name on Google and other search engines and see what consumers are saying on blogs and other highly ranked pages.
- Google Alerts: It’s a good idea to set up a Google Alert with your company name and any top products. This way you’ll be alerted right way when consumers post anything about you on the web. And it’s free.
- Blog Searches: Google Alerts will send you most blog posts about your company, but you’ll want to use a blog search engine as well. Try Technorati, Google Blogsearch, and Blogpulse to search for blog posts about specific topics.
- Social Media: Don’t forget about social media. You should do a Twitter search to see what’s being said about your company. You should also set up a free account at Social Mention and sign up for a daily email summary of your company’s mentions in the social media world.
